As an extension of our work with the Department of Defense, we have the advantage of leveraging our innovative software-design philosophy in support of research, development, test, and evaluation efforts for various commercial applications, resembling an incubator development model for leading commercial customers. Torch.AI is currently partnering with a commercial customer in an exciting endeavor to design, build, and scale a new type of intelligent, long-range weather model, capable of predicting weather events up to 60 months into the future.

Revolutionizing the way weather data is processed and delivered, the cutting-edge application aggregates, blends, and harmonizes near-term weather forecasts with long-term historical analysis to provide businesses and individuals with precise, actionable forecasts for improved business planning and operational outcomes.

As we work with this customer to scale the MVP completed in February 2025 and work towards initial operating capability (IOC) and full operating capability (FOC) later this year, we’re looking for a Sr. Full-Stack Engineer to join our team as a dedicated lead for this effort.

The Role: Build and Scale a Brand-New Weather Intelligence Product. Take it to Market with Early Adopter Customers.

As the Sr. Full-Stack Engineer for Torch.AI Incubator’s Long-Range Weather Application, you will have a unique opportunity to design, build, and scale a new, innovative product from the ground up. You’ll work directly with and learn from the customer organization’s CEO—a seasoned executive in the air traffic control and aviation industry—to develop features and improvements based on demand signals, interact with early adopters to drive initial user adoption, develop strategies for scaling beyond incubation phase, and demonstrate regular progress to stakeholders.

You'll work across the entire stack, from responsive front-end interfaces to scalable back-end systems and advanced weather forecasting models, ensuring seamless user experiences and high-performance data processing. You will be the primary technical lead for this project, working autonomously while driving coordinated, collaborative decisions based on customer input. You'll receive occasional support from the ‘MVP development team’, consisting of Torch.AI’s chief technology officer, chief product architect, senior web application engineer, and chief strategy officer. You’ll also be able to take advantage of financial investments for additional technical surge support and go-to-market advisory support, as needed.

This role is ideal for those who are looking to gain experience as a technical co-founder and work as an early contributor to a successful web application while doing so in a more protected environment with existing financial backing. This role has the opportunity to convert to a full-time co-founder or senior technical executive role at the customer organization following successful incubation phases.

Critical Skills

• 10+ years of professional software development experience with object-oriented programming languages such as TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, or Java.
• Experience with Web and Mobile UI/UX development (Chrome, Safari, Firefox; iOS and Android, a plus)
• Experience deploying software to cloud platforms, especially AWS
• Experience with and understanding of RAG models and LLMs
• Hands-on experience with both front-end (React, Angular, Vue, Vercel, Redux) and back-end technologies (MapBox, AWS Lambda, Node.js, Python, Java).
• Proficiency with database technologies including SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., Elasticsearch, Neo4j, SQL, MongoDB/documentDb).
• Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., GitHub, BitBucket) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong experience with data structures/schemas, algorithm design, and time-series data analysis.
• Experience performing code reviews and assisting in QA/UAT processes and user onboarding.
• Proficiency in writing application specifications, creating documentation, and troubleshooting software applications.
• Knowledge of APIs, web applications, and service development, with a focus on robust, scalable systems.
• Experience in deploying and managing full-stack enterprise applications.
• B.S. degree in Computer Science, Technology, Engineering, or a relevant field; M.S. preferred.

Work Environment

• The role will be based out of Torch.AI’s headquarters in Leawood, KS. 
• Opportunities for remote work, based in Denver, CO (customer location) are also available.
• Standard work hours are 9-5PM Mon-Fri but can flex based on customer schedule and needs.
• Minimal to no travel.
